JAKARTA – The Directorate of Health (Dinkes) of the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) announced that as of May 3, 2024, the number of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases in the region was recorded at 907. Therefore, the number of cases has more than doubled compared to the number of cases in the same period in 2023.
“As of May 3rd, we have a significant number of outbreaks. 907 cases and 3 deaths in DIY. This is something that we regret and we are really careful about. This is an area in need of support,” said Pembajun, head of DIY Health Services (Dinks). On Monday, May 13th, Setyaningastutiye at Kepatihan complex in Yogyakarta, seized by Antara.
According to Pembajun, DIY dengue cases are still recorded in the range of 400 for the period from January to May 2023.
Mr Pembajun said that out of the hundreds of dengue cases this year, Gunung Kidul district had recorded the highest number of cases compared to other districts and needed special attention.
“It’s actually pretty evenly distributed, with Kulon Progo having at most a small number,” he said.
He said Kulon Progo had the lowest number of DIY dengue cases, but malaria cases were still found in the district.
“This is the biggest challenge in malaria control that remains unfinished,” he said.
Pembajun said the increase in dengue cases this year was caused by a number of factors, including the emergence of the El Niño phenomenon and warmer-than-average temperatures, including a change in weather from rainy to summer.
“Yesterday we had quite a bit of rainfall, and then we had a pretty good time. Now we're back in summer, above average, and there are more places where mosquitoes are waiting,” he said.
To reduce the dengue transmission rate, he called on the people of the state to resume the 3M Plus Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) campaign, which involves draining, closing and burying mosquito nests in their respective environments. Ta.
“It would be a plus if we could do that, so if we have used bottles we can recycle them,” he said.
He also encouraged the public to continue to strengthen the movement of door-to-door larval monitoring interpreters or larval monitoring volunteers (jumantik).
The DIY Health Department will also intensify surveillance activities to control cases in collaboration with district/city agencies through each Puskesma.
“What we really want is for people to be aware of their environment. This dengue fever is not just inside the home, but outside the home, especially in the areas where mosquitoes are really waiting. “It's widespread in areas where many trees have been cut down and infections have occurred since then,” he said.
Pembajun stressed that environmental cleanliness is paramount and infiltration or “fogging” is a last resort to eradicate dengue cases.
“We advise the public not to talk about 'fogging'. There are still many people who ask for 'fogging', because again 'fogging' only kills the adult insects,” Pembajun said. .
