Technologists Todd Terrazas, Max Einhorn, Mike Gioia, and Ian Eck challenged nine up-and-coming filmmakers to create a short film in just 48 hours using generative AI. I imposed it. The Cinema Synthetica filmmaking competition is the first of its kind and was established to demonstrate the potential of AI tools to impact the future of filmmaking.
The completion is part of the AI on the Lot conference, a one-day summit taking place next week in downtown Los Angeles that will allow Hollywood creators to collaborate with those at the forefront of artificial intelligence. Nine Cinema Synthetica participants were carefully selected for this challenge and divided into teams of three. After two full days of work, the film was released on AI on the Lot on May 16th, with industry figures including Einhorn, Jeff Clanagan, Kathleen McCaffrey, Momo Wang, Rachel Joy Victor, and Jackie Chan. The film will be screened to a panel of judges including:
The team will create short films based on dialogue-only scripts written by Emmy Award-winning screenwriter Bernie Hsu (“Artificial,” “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries”). Films must be between 2 and 5 minutes long and produced on a budget of $500.
AI is a highly controversial issue in the entertainment world, and competition co-founder Einhorn emphasized that generative AI is a tool that can help filmmakers enhance their creative vision. .
“Generative AI will revolutionize the filmmaking process, not by taking away jobs, but by empowering more creative individuals to share their stories,” Einhorn said. “Digital cameras and the Internet have already lowered the barrier to entry for storytellers, and the Cinema Synthetica competition proves how GenAI can do the same. It shows that it can benefit the process rather than hinder it.”
Hsu echoed Einhorn's comments, stressing that there is still a very human dimension behind the creation of short films.
“Filmmakers will combine AI tools with their incredible human talent and use these resources to create films that would have been impossible just three months ago,” Su added. I did. “We are honored to provide a spark of inspiration at this groundbreaking event.”
This contest is sponsored by Adobe and seeks to showcase its latest AI software products.
“These artists represent the tip of the spear and provide a powerful showcase of cutting-edge tools,” said Terrazas, co-founder and organizer of AI on the Lot.
