Korean dramas are always filled with fun celebrity cameos, such as Lovely Runner giving a shoutout to actor Seo In Guk, but he doesn't actually take part in the scenes.
In Lovely Runner episode 10, Baek In-hyuk and his band Eclipse are auditioning for a televised competition called Superstar K. Hundreds of people gather to showcase their musical talent in hopes of becoming South Korea's next big star.
As the auditions progress before Eclipse's turn, fans will see an excited young man holding a contest T-shirt over his face. This shirt is to show that they have passed to participate in the competition stage. However, the real deciding factor is the name written on the contestant's vest. It says “Seo In Guk”.
Mr. Seo does not actually appear in “Lovely Runner”. The actor's cameo appearance is rather a shout-out to his real life. Superstar K is a full-fledged Korean competition series that first aired in 2009. He has grown to be one of cable TV's biggest series.
So where does Seo fit in? Before becoming an actor in K-dramas like Doom at Your Service and Death's Game, he was a singer. He became the first contestant to win Superstar K in 2009.
After the competition, he released his first EP “Calling” and signed with Story J Company, formerly known as Jellyfish Entertainment. Seo went on to release several more songs in his career before making his acting debut in 2012. He became known for his role in Reply 1997.
The big question is whether the real history between Mr. Seo and Superstar K will take place in “Lovely Runner.'' As fans know, Eclipse is a famous band in Im Sol and Seung Jae's current timeline.
Maybe Korean dramas will flip the script and Eclipse will be the first winner instead. Notably, Sungjae did not travel to America for rehabilitation to resume her swimming career. Eclipse submitted an original audition tape for Seung-jae to sing, so this contest may ignite his career as a singer.
