I live in Luang Prabang in northern Laos. I love living in Luang Prabang! But there's a problem. I have a lung disease that is made worse by the smoke of the burning season. For the past 2 months I have been suffering from bronchitis, cough, liters of phlegm, etc. It's not good for your health. 😞 And I spend a lot of money on antihistamine tablets, phlegm thinner tablets, and some weird brown cough syrup made in China (all helpful…).
You have two choices.
– Move to a place with better air quality. For this purpose, I have asked a question on the Krabi forum. Because my ex-boyfriend has a modern house in Ao Nang that I can rent. I lived in Ao Nang many years ago and had good lung health.
or
– Please keep smoky air out of my home in Luang Prabang and wear a proper N95 face mask when outdoors.
My house is old, so there are more holes in the walls than colanders. What do I need to do to achieve clean air in the large open plan area downstairs?
i guess:
– Tape or cover all ventilation grilles on the walls.
– Add insulation strips, etc. to all doors/windows to ensure a secure fit when closed.
– Add a suitable filter to the only air conditioning unit (you don't normally use air conditioning, but after closing all air gaps you need to provide some means for outside air to actually enter the room through the air) If you don't remove the filter, you will suffocate from carbon dioxide poisoning!!
– Buy a decent indoor air purifier.
what do you recommend? Do I stay in my Lao home and try to improve it, or move to a place with clean ocean air all year round? I love living in Laos (and previously Myanmar), but I'm concerned about my lung health. When I think about it, I feel like I need to do something about this situation.
