One of the things I've enjoyed most about Tha Phog over the years is the ingenuity, creativity, and skill of many of the posters. This is especially true when it comes to DIY “what I want to make” projects.
Ideas, tips… DIY Q&A….. Study these posts carefully. It's both fun and informative.
So, brothers and sisters, let’s see what we have in store for 2024!!!
This year, I'm building four cedar Adirondack sets (chair, ottoman, and umbrella table) as part of my decades-long quest to design and build the perfect 50-year Adirondack chair.
Some of my first chairs (second photo below) are now nearly 20 years old…including 15 Chicago winters) and are as solid as the first day…but I have We work every year to improve.
This year's changes include some (invisible but important) internal bracing design improvements. Also, engravings were introduced on some surfaces. (Courtesy of a neighbor who has a CNC router…I received a set of chairs in exchange for the artwork)
I'll post some photos of the test piece… And a photo of how it looks when applied to cedar.
I have a question for Mr. Fogg… Each set includes approximately 50 sets of 3/8 nuts, bolts, and washers. It's incredible how much the prices of materials have increased in 20 years…the wood alone costs him well over $1000. Another $400 for stain. …but there are certainly places where you can buy nuts and bolts for this project for under $400.
Is there a place for high quality nuts and bolts that someone can recommend?
Here are some pictures of what I am doing for 2024….: What are you all doing?
