After completing the online hunter education course, the next step is to attend an in-person field day that includes a written exam and skills test. Field days are now available in May and June for individuals who successfully complete the online course.
“Spring and summer are a great time to take online classes and then do any required field days,” says Josh McKay, New Hampshire Fish and Game Hunter Education Coordinator. “Don't wait until the last moment or you may run out of space.”
New Hampshire requires new hunters to take hunter education before purchasing their first hunting license. If you are 16 years of age or older, a hunting license is required. To meet this requirement, the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game offers classes in-state and online. To obtain the Hunter Basic Education certification, a participant must be at least 15 years old by the date of the field day exam.
Hunters who purchased an apprentice hunting license last year must complete hunter education before purchasing a hunting license. Obtaining an apprentice hunting license allows you to hunt under the guidance of an experienced hunter without first receiving hunter education.
