Artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic is expanding the reach of its Claude chatbot with the launch of its first smartphone app and new enterprise subscription plan.
The San Francisco-based company, which focuses on secure AI, said in an announcement Wednesday (May 1) that its new iPhone app will be available to both free and paid Claude users. The app syncs with the web-based version, allowing users to switch devices and continue conversations seamlessly. This move will put Anthropic in more direct competition with industry giants like his OpenAI and Google.
“Early testers report that the Claude app is great for brainstorming ideas, getting quick answers to questions, and analyzing real-world scenes and images on the go.” the company said in a blog post. “Our new iOS app puts the power of frontier intelligence in your pocket.”
The app's main feature is the ability to analyze photos taken by users, allowing chatbots to perform tasks such as image recognition.
The smartphone app allows users to interact with the Claude AI assistant on their mobile device.
humanity's ambition
This new product is an important step for Anthropic, which aims to make advanced AI technology more accessible to both individual users and businesses. The introduction of enterprise subscription plans demonstrates Anthropic's commitment to serving businesses.
As Anthropic expands Claude's reach through these new services, competition in the AI industry is expected to increase.
Anthropic is also targeting businesses with new subscription plans. For $30 per user per month for a minimum of 5 users, businesses can offer their employees enhanced access to Claude. The startup plans to add features such as collaboration tools in the coming weeks.
“Claude enables companies to shape workflows based on their teams’ unique needs and goals, rather than being limited by existing tools,” the company said in a blog post. “Claude is built with security and data privacy in mind, helping you protect your sensitive business information.”
Apple's AI Play
There's no indication that Apple is behind the recent humanities news, but the iPhone maker is making big inroads into AI. According to a report in the Financial Times on Tuesday (April 30), Apple has poached a number of artificial intelligence experts from Google.
The analysis, based on a review of hundreds of LinkedIn profiles, job postings and research papers, revealed that Apple is making a significant hiring surge to ramp up its AI and machine learning efforts. Apple has hired at least 30 experts from Google as part of its efforts to expand its expertise in these areas.
Apple has also resumed talks with OpenAI about integrating artificial intelligence (AI) features into future iPhone models, according to Bloomberg News. The companies are negotiating the terms of a potential deal and considering how OpenAI's artificial intelligence capabilities could enhance the iPhone's operating system, sources said. Anthropic was founded by former OpenAI team members Daniela and Dario Amodei.
This latest development suggests that talks between the two tech giants will resume after a period of minimal communication. Additionally, Apple is reportedly in talks with Google regarding licensing AI chatbots. PYMNTS has reached out to both Apple and OpenAI for comment, but have not yet received a response.
