At SynthFest France 2024, TINRS (This Is Not Rocket Science) announced that they are developing a new DIY version of their RectangularThing synth voice.
This year, Stijn and Priscilla from This is Not Rocket Science (TINRS) participated in SynthFest France 2024 for the first time. In addition to his magnificent Fenix IV synthesizer, which is now discontinued, he also brings with him an entire portfolio of modules.
The developers didn't have any big news for SFF 2024, but they did have some good news: the RectangularThing synth voice is returning. Stijn says it's a revised version as a DIY project.
TINRS Rectangular Thing DIY
RectangularThing is a classic synth voice for Eurorack with FM, soft/hard sync, 2 oscillators with PWM, a mixer, high-pass and low-pass filters, 2 envelopes, and 2 VCAs. Everything you need for a synth voice.
The linked image is still an old version. TINRS is currently working on a new version. It is not yet known what new features will be added. According to Stijn, they learned a lot from the development of his Fenix IV semi-modular synth and want to incorporate this knowledge into the new version.
One thing is for sure: a new version of TINRS RectangularThing will not go into production. It is published as is as a DIY project so that anyone can reproduce it.
I've linked the TINRS video from SynthFest France 2024 for those who want to know what was in the booth. Plus, it includes some great wild jams from Stijn.
TINRS RectangularThing DIY availability TBA.
