Mother's Day comes around every year. Spring is here and it's time to start thinking about the best ways to show appreciation to the mothers in your life (including pet mothers!). It might be a candle, a good glass of wine, or just a long chat on the phone, but if you want to add a little more personalized touch to your gift, all you need to do is scroll through social media. Find fun and easy DIYs and show you exactly how to make them happen.
Flowers are a classic gift for Mother's Day. However, if you want something that will last, try drying it and framing it like TikTok creator @landonklucas did in a video posted.
She begins by gathering several flowers of various sizes and cutting off their stems. Next, she places the flower face down on a paper towel and another paper towel on top (like a little flower sandwich). She puts those paper towels in the microwave and places a heavy microwave-safe plate on top of them. She heats the flowers in the microwave for 2 minutes, then takes them out, lets them cool, and is ready to frame them.
One commenter claimed that two minutes was a little too long for her flower, which ended up burning. You can microwave the flowers in 30-second intervals to ensure that they dry out without turning brown.
More than that, the craft was a success for other commenters as well, calling it “so beautiful and simple.”
If you want to add more flair to your framed flower idea and make it special, consider adding a photo like TikTok creator @debtrette does. Rather than pressing the flowers herself, she decided to buy a flower pressing set instead and used a paintbrush to dab clear glue on the backs of the Polaroid photos and flowers, ensuring everything stayed in place. I have confirmed that. Add a little ribbon and a card and voila!
“I'm going to make this one for myself,” one user wrote, while most other comments raved about how it would make an ideal Mother's Day gift. “Oh I'm definitely doing this to make it, such a great idea,” said another viewer.
If your mom isn't too fond of flowers, do what @diywithshantelle did with her gift and stick together Scrabble pieces to create a word or phrase that's meaningful to both of you.
She received a box of Scrabble from Goodwill. I traced her background, cut it out, pasted it to the frame lining, and hot glued the Scrabble pieces to make it my own. Her work includes the names of other family members, but can also reference special memories, dates, songs, locations, etc. No matter what she decides to spell out, the recipient will love what you make (she always does).
