We are currently rolling in enrollment and accepting applications for spots in the program in fall 2024. Based in the heart of New York City, the School of Visual Arts' Master of Arts in Curatorial Practice program thoroughly prepares students for professional work as curators of art. , our graduates find work in fields all over the world. Practical training is at the heart of the program, with workshops, seminars and on-site instruction in museums and art centers giving students the in-depth knowledge they need to be employed as professionals. Our faculty are renowned working curators who teach their work. History and theory are essential to a student's education as well as training them to become better writers. Each week, students meet with renowned curators from around the world, deepening their understanding of a wide variety of cultural and professional perspectives, and building a global network of professional connections for the future.
In addition to this, in the summers between the two years of the program, students visit major international biennales, followed by selected internships at prestigious art institutions. These internships provide hands-on training and improve practical knowledge and skills, while also building more professional connections and introducing a new culture that enriches students personally and professionally. essential for experiencing the environment. The student will create her three exhibition/curation projects in unique gallery spaces and other locations in New York City, further developing skills for employment in the field after graduation.
For the 2024-25 academic year, we are pleased to announce our new faculty member, Ruth Estevez, an internationally recognized curator and recently appointed co-director of Skowegan, one of the nation's premier art residency programs. I am very happy. Ruth joins a faculty that includes Chrissy Iles, current co-director of this year's Whitney Biennial; Charles Renfro, president of Diller, Scofidio & Renfro, one of the world's most famous architectural firms. David A. Ross, former director of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and other major museums; Sarah Riesman, Chief Curator, National Academy of Design.Brian Quan Wood, e-flux founder journal; etc.
Of course, being in New York City is a uniquely New York City education, with hundreds of art galleries, major museums, and cultural institutions of all kinds within walking distance of our beautiful spaces here at the School of Visual Arts, offering endless possibilities.
