A panel of experts will be coming to the University of Houston-Victoria Katy campus in late April to provide perspectives for those exploring career prospects and educational pathways in their field.
The Insights and Expertise Series at UHV Katy: Data Science and Business Analytics will be held at UHV Katy, 22400 Grand Circle Blvd, on April 30th from 6-7:30 p.m. This event will be a hybrid event where in-person and virtual attendees are welcome.
“We take insights from academia and match them with the great experience that industry has to understand not just what is happening in academia, but how it relates to that industry. We want to build a series of different sessions to highlight,” Robert said.Mr. Hernandez, UHV Katy Registration and External Relations Manager
This event will be the first session in UHV Katy's Insights & Expertise series focused on data science and business analytics. In the past, the series has touched on cybersecurity among many other topics, Hernandez said. The event will feature a panel comprised of UHV faculty and guest speakers who will address the audience about data science and business analytics.
Alexander Aidov, associate professor of finance at UHV, will be one of the panelists, along with Victoria Okotie, founder and CEO of technology consultancy Kevin Mitch Group. Okotie has received numerous awards including Houston's Top She 50 Women Leaders and Nigeria's She 100 Leading Women. She is also a member of the National Leadership and Success Association. Okotie also teaches business analysis to UHV graduate students.
UHV alumnus Ben Gonzalez will also serve as one of four panelists. Gonzalez has over 15 years of experience in market analysis, data analysis, and energy economics. Throughout his career, he has focused on petroleum refining and petrochemicals, and now in Houston, he is head of data analytics at Poten and Partners.
The fourth panelist was Bo Hu, an expert in communications, signal processing, and information theory. She will talk about how artificial intelligence and machine learning can be used to revolutionize the oil and gas sector.
“The benefits of panel discussions are huge because they bring together a diverse audience,” Hernandez said. “This is a way to give back and share what they're doing and give insight into what's emerging in those areas.”
The event is open to faculty, staff, students, alumni and the community and will be a great opportunity for anyone looking to expand their network, Hernandez said. Those planning to go should register at https://connect.uhv.edu/register/?id=61688cf3-7d39-454b-82dc-0df2e39745e5.
“This is a great opportunity to gain valuable insight and expertise from people in the community,” Hernandez said. “For anyone looking to gain insight into industry members, their career paths and educational requirements, this is the place to be.”
