Dear Proflo,
The Daily welcomes you to Leland Stanford Jr. University, one of the world's most selective institutions of higher education. Whether you've lived near campus all your life or are just arriving in the United States for the first time, you're starting a whole new chapter in your life. This institution will become your second home as you develop your identity and expand your intellectual horizons over the next few years.
There are many ways to become a Stanford student, whether you're already planning your trip to Stanford in detail or just enjoying the high that comes from enjoying the vast array of options at hand.
In this special print issue of The Daily, our staff has created stories to introduce you to the different worlds of Stanford University. What does Stanford University do with the donations? How can I view my admissions file? What is the pre-orientation program like? What actually happens in the admissions office? Is not it? What do graduating seniors want to tell their professional selves?
As Stanford's oldest independent student-published newspaper, the advantage of student-published data journalism is that it offers a degree of freedom from the harsh constraints imposed by formal research in a particular field. We are pleased with the level of interest in our data section since its relaunch. I'm also very proud of everyone who contributed to this issue.
Before you embark on your journey to Stanford University, we encourage you to enjoy the company of your peers and begin your college career with the same open-mindedness and love of learning that brought you to this university. If you choose to come here, know that your time at this school will have moments of suffering and ecstasy, and your peers will be there to experience it with you. And while you may not yet understand why you were chosen to be here, what you do now that you are here is most important. Welcome to Stanford!
