DIY Technology: Customize cables and ends from scratch or repair broken cables – throttles, brakes, clutches, chokes, anything!
How many times have you found yourself working on a mini bike, go kart, motorcycle, etc. and found that the end of a cable is broken? A type of cable that operates clutches, chokes, etc. Or use it as a hot rod or race car throttle cable. So I realized I needed one and started looking, but then I finally realized I needed a $50 cable to get that cheap mini bike working again and guess what? But… If you save your old cable or buy an inexpensive universal cable, you can fix this sucker yourself with a few tools and a little ingenuity. This video from SixtyFiveFord shows you how and how easy it is to do it. In fact, if he doesn't live within a block of the store that carries what you want, you probably won't be able to go buy it faster than you can make it yourself.
Here's how:

A note about soldering: Use solder with a high lead content. Suitable for repairs, but also great as solder for electronic devices. It's fine if it has a rosin core, but requires an acid flux (zinc chloride) to bond to steel or oxidized metals. Later, you can use the solder only for electronics repair using the built-in rosin flux. You can use acid flux on electrical items (especially those that are corroded/oxidized), but you will need to clean them off after use.
