Google's Gary Illyes said on stage at last week's SERP conference that Google has taken steps to combat what's called parasitic SEO in the latest Google algorithm update. “We have already taken action against parasitic SEO, and our recent updates are proof of that,” he was quoted as saying.

I believe Gary is referring to the March 2024 spam update, if the quote is correct. This spam update is already targeting scaled content and expired domain abuse, and will soon target site reputation abuse, also known as parasite SEO.
Last December, Danny Sullivan said that Google was taking action against some parasitic SEOs, and that more action would be taken in the future. We've seen some real-world examples of sites being harmed by Google's recent updates, and we expect many more to be harmed once the site reputation abuse policy is implemented.
So, we'll see, but Gary reportedly said that the last update addressed some of the search quality issues.
