Now that you know how to code and visualize your data, what's next?
In the rapidly expanding world of technology, data-related careers have significantly emerged on the market in recent years, and the demand for professionals with the skills to understand and translate data has skyrocketed. Over the past few years, organizations have seen an exponential increase in the quantity and quality of data carriers, and the number of people interested in data careers has grown as well.
But today's job market is more challenging than ever. Companies are freezing employee hiring and layoffs as the pandemic lags. This only scares data professionals. In my opinion, you can bring the right set of hard skills to the table, but that alone is not enough. How to create unique and comprehensive value is a more important question for recruiters.
When I started my data career as a data science intern at PepsiCo in 2020, I had a lot to learn. Throughout my year-long internship, I learned and developed a sense that soft skills are just as important (and in some cases even more so) than hard skills like coding and data manipulation.
I can say that I am improving my soft skills every day, but there are a few things I would like to highlight. soft skills (In no particular order) Here are the things that have worked to my advantage over the past four years and helped me progress in my career.
Last year, I participated in a fireside conversation with a company president, and one of the lessons he shared with people starting their careers was: accountability And people who show responsibility stand out in the organization. That stayed with me.
As professionals, regardless of management, we must take responsibility for the successes and failures of our work. With accountability in mind, I like to plan the impact of my work on other members of the team and stakeholders, and the value it creates.
Even if you're not a manager, you'll be one at some point, and when you have responsibilities, your responsibilities will dictate your actions. By taking charge and working under your inner boss, you will also be better able to coordinate…
