Yesterday (April 19), Drake officially released his new song 'Push Ups', a response to Kendrick Lamar's poignant verse on his chart-topping 'Like That'. He followed this up with another Lamar taunt, “Taylor Made Freestyle.” The track, which was shared on social media, begins with a verse that sounds like Tupac or Snoop Dogg. The third verse is by Drake, with no obvious artificial intelligence voice manipulation. Search for “TaylorMade Freestyle”. X.
In the opening verse, AI 2Pac guides Kendrick Lamar to respond to Drake. “Kendrick, we need you, savior of the West Coast / Carve your name into hip-hop history,” a voice raps. “Fuck you fair-skinned Canadian, Dot/We need an undisputed West Coast win, dude.”
AI's Snoop Dogg went on to question Lamar's street background while encouraging him to pick a fight with Drake. “I know you've never been to prison, you've never worn a jumpsuit or shower shoes/You've never shot anyone, you've never stabbed anyone/You've never been violent to anyone.” , it's your friends who give you power / But you still have to prove that this damn owl is the boss of the West / Now's the time to really exercise your power. ”
To conclude the song, Drake further disparaged Lamar and also praised Lamar's “Bad Blood” collaborator Taylor Swift, who released a massive double album. Tortured Poets: Anthology Hours before Drake's “Push Up”: “But now you have to wait a week 'cause Taylor Swift is your new top/And if you're about to fall, she's got to approve Yo.'' He later added, “Yeah, thanks to Taylor Swift/The biggest gang in the music game right now/You know, I moved the album when she dropped it. ”
When Drake calls out 2Pac, we're reminded of Kendrick Lamar's last track. pimp butterfly, “Mortal Man.” For the song, Lamar used archive audio from Tupac in conversation with the late California rapper. Beyond her albums, Lamar has expressed her admiration for Tupac over the years, and in 2015 she said, “The lives of the people you touched at that little intersection have been forever changed.'' ” she writes.
And Drake's use of AI Snoop Dogg's vocals has already gotten a response from the real, live Snoop Dogg. A Long Beach artist who also performed in pimp butterfly, “Institutionalized,” acknowledged his “TaylorMade Freestyle” in a video he posted on social media. “What did they do? When? How? Are you serious?” he asks. “Good night everyone.”
Kendrick Lamar reignited his feud with Drake with his barbed verse on Metro Boomin and Future's “Like That.” The track prompted a response from another target on the track, his J. Cole, who shared his own “7-minute drill.” Cole quickly distanced himself from the beef, publicly apologizing for the song, and removing it from digital streaming platforms.
