DALLAS — Omni Hotels & Resorts officials have acknowledged that cybercriminals stole customers' personal information during what appears to be a ransomware attack last month.

In a post on its website on Sunday, the hotel giant said “limited information about some customers may have been affected.”
As reported by TechCrunch, Omni announced that it had shut down its systems on March 29 after discovering an intruder on its systems. Guests reported outages throughout Omni's properties, with some customers facing phone and Wi-Fi issues, according to the technology news website.
Omni said the stolen data included customer names, email addresses, physical addresses and guest loyalty program information. This breach does not include any information regarding financial information or social security numbers.
Some customers said their room keys no longer worked.
Omni officials said the chain's systems were back up and running by April 8, TechCrunch reported.
“Omni Hotels & Resorts continues to investigate recent cyberattacks on its systems with assistance from leading cybersecurity response groups,” the company said in an update to its website.
The FBI reports that more than 2,825 ransomware complaints were reported in 2023, an 18% increase compared to 2022. According to the FBI, his reported losses increased 74% from $34.3 million to $59.6 million.
Omni Hotels & Resorts is based in Dallas and operates 50 hotels and resorts in the United States and Canada, according to the Dallas Morning News.
