As the saying goes, if you're going through hell, keep going. This is the mantra on which avant-garde rapper CHOZE built his underground empire.
The London-based artist initially followed a completely different path in life. His success came from failure, where he had to build his self-esteem from scratch. In his teens, he was scouted as a training player for professional football teams from Millwall to Queens Park Rangers, but was prematurely released due to his ankle injury. It was then that he decided to pursue his most enduring passion: music.
“Music was my savior,” says CHOZE. It was the norm in his family, where a music-loving family etched Michael Jackson's grooves into his childhood memories and unwittingly shaped the trajectory of his future career. CHOZE knew from that moment that his family, his DJ and MC Garage, his Neutrino, one half of the duo Oxide & Neutrino, would be the game-changing UK No. 1 single “Bound 4 Da Reload (Casualty)”. )” and achieved rapid growth. This was what he wanted to do.
It was then that CHOZE began to make inroads into influential pirate radio stations such as Deja Vu FM and Delight FM. It was a thriving underground scene that paved the way for the rise of grime mainstays Dizzee Rascal and Stormzy. Through this community and her DIY spirit, CHOZE found a safe place to gain the confidence to start recording her own music.
As they began to gain attention through networking and recording demos, they were approached by Virgin Records to sign the boy band to a record deal. While the offer may have been commercially attractive, CHOZE knew that the music they wanted him to be involved with was not representative of him as a musician. He values his identity and artistic integrity above all else.
It was clear that CHOZE didn't need a major label deal to succeed in the London music scene. His first live performance was on iluvlive, a music development platform that introduced the likes of Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, and Tinie Tempah, to name a few. There, he caught the attention of presenter Ras Kwame (BBC 1XTRA, Capital XTRA), who told CHOZE that his dynamic performance and on-stage charisma were the highlights of the night.
As he began releasing music, Sony's Flava TV and others began showcasing his hip-hop cuts, from “Out of The Dark” to “Now Your Life Begins.” CHOZE started to attract a lot of attention, even being selected as one of Flava TV's “People to Watch.”
It's his genre-bending track “Sell My Soul (I Won't)” featuring Max Stone, which has racked up 250,000 views on YouTube and will garner praise from music critics across the board . The song was scheduled to be performed by Kelis DJ Nicky Beatnik and Capital FM's Andy Durant. This established him as hip-hop's most exciting rising star.
CHOZE also became a standard-bearer in the fight against London's knife crime epidemic after a 15-year-old boy was murdered at his Clapham estate while he was growing up. His experiences of hardship have injected an unapologetic spirit into his music, which was featured on stage at the Hammersmith Apollo by MBE Paulette Randall and Sir Lenny Henry as part of the anti-knife campaign 'It's No Joke'. was invited.
From now on, his every move will be focused on the future. He is aiming to release his long-awaited debut LP “DIY”. Not only is this a bold and definitive statement of CHOZE's artistic identity, but it also recreates the essence of the “old school” era that elevated and shaped his sound. “DIY'' boasts a lineup that includes the original drum and bass king Skibadee, as well as producers DJ Lynx, SKOLZ, Renzo, and Shai Sevin.
Signed to Kartel Music Group, CHOZE finally has the means to realize his vision on a global scale. “My dream is for this album to be respected not only by my peers and idols, but also by natural followers who appreciate the art that I have always tried to create and project,” he says.
