A Russian missile attack killed 14 people in the city of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine, Ukrainian officials said.
Ukraine's interior minister said more than 60 people were injured in the attack, which hit an eight-story building in a densely populated area.
Officials said three missiles landed near the city center.
The attack came hours after reports of a Ukrainian attack on a Russian military airfield in occupied Crimea.
Local social media channels shared footage of a fire that appears to have broken out at the airfield in Zhankoy in northern Crimea, although details have not yet been confirmed.
In Chernihiv, acting mayor Oleksandr Romako said one building was damaged and multiple floors were damaged after a direct hit from a Russian missile. The presidential palace in Kiev said four more high-rise buildings, a hospital, dozens of cars and a higher education institution were all damaged in the attack.
Ukraine's Interior Minister Ihor Klimenko said two children were among the victims and police were searching for more victims in the rubble.
Video from the scene showed people getting off trolleybuses and diving into the city for shelter. Officials called on the public to come forward to donate blood.
Emergency services continue to search through the rubble for more victims.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said the Russian attack would not have happened “if Ukraine had received sufficient air defense equipment” and repeatedly appealed to Western allies to provide assistance.
Chernihiv is just 100 km (60 miles) from the Russian border.
At the start of the invasion in 2022, parts of the Chernihiv region not far from the city were occupied for several weeks while Russia sought to capture southern Kiev.
The city was under siege for over a month. About 70% was destroyed and hundreds of civilians were killed, the mayor said.
In August 2023, a theater in the city was hit by a missile attack, killing seven people.
In a US television interview on Monday, the Ukrainian leader also blamed Russia's destruction of a major thermal power plant supplying electricity to Kiev and other regions last week on Ukraine's weakened air defense capabilities.
Zelenskiy said 11 missiles were fired at the Trypilya factory, and Ukrainian forces were able to shoot down only seven of them. “We destroyed Tripiliya with four missiles. Why? Because we had zero missiles. We used up all our missiles,” he told PBS.
Kiev has been waiting for months for a $60bn (£48bn) US aid package to pass through parliament, but it has been blocked by Republican opposition.
Zelenskiy said the world came together to support Israel, a non-NATO member, when it was attacked by Iranian missiles, and called on Ukraine to show similar political will. Ta.
