Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) on Tuesday announced new processors optimized for artificial intelligence (AI) to expand its AI PC portfolio. The new products could help AMD better compete with Nvidia (NVDA) and Intel (INTC) in the AI era.
AMD announced the AMD Ryzen PRO 8040 series, which it says is “the most advanced x86 processor built for business laptops and mobile workstations.”
The company also announced AMD Ryzen PRO 8000 series desktop processors, “the first AI-enabled desktop processors for business users, designed to deliver cutting-edge performance with low power consumption.”
“AMD is further expanding its AI PC leadership,” the company said in a release, “By leveraging the CPU, GPU, and dedicated on-chip neural processing unit (NPU), the new Ryzen AI-powered processors “We will provide more specialized AI.” It has higher processing power than the previous generation. ”
Lenovo and HP (HPQ) plan to use new AMD processors in their AI PC products. Microsoft (MSFT) said the company is working with his AMD to “deliver more optimized performance and security features on Windows 11 desktop and mobile systems powered by AMD Ryzen.”
The announcement comes as AMD and Intel work to catch up with Nvidia, which dominates the AI chip market. Nvidia and Intel also announced their own AI PC chips.
