1. Check your direct competitors' backlinks
Link building helps your site rank higher, so you can assume that the highest ranking sites in the SERPs have a lot of good backlinks.
The same goes for competitors who rank higher than you.
And if a lot of authoritative sites are linking to you, wouldn't you want them to link to you too?
Of course it will.
Once you find those sites, you can start building links there, right?
It's not that fast.
Step 1: Uncover your true competitors
First, you need to know which sites are your online competitors. After all, you don't want to waste your time trying to outperform a site that isn't even stealing your customers.
Here's how to identify your direct competitors:
- Their site serves the same purpose as yours and targets the same audience.
- It will rank for the same keywords you want to rank for.
- Their business is in the same area as yours.
- They are ranked higher than you.
To start your competitor search, open WebCEO's Dangerous Competitors tool.
Please click setting Click the button to access the following tabs:
- keyword: Please enter your ranking keyword there.
- Competitors: If you already know your competitors, add their URLs there.
- Search engine: Add the search engines you want to rank for. Local business owners can also select location to narrow down results.
click keep, This tool generates a table of sites belonging to potential competitors. Visit their sites and make sure they are really your competitors.
Step 2: Check your backlinks
The next step is to check your backlinks with Competitor Backlink Spy.
- Open setting Competitor's URL competitors tab.
- press keepThe tool will then list all your competitors' backlinks, especially the pages that link to your competitors.
All you have to do is find a promising domain among the linked pages. After you create link-worthy content and present your case to these sites, visit them to find sites that are likely to give you backlinks.
By the way, your competitors can also be backlink providers. Feel free to build links to their sites as well.
2. Essential websites for link building
You can create some strong backlinks yourself before other sites start linking to your site. There's a website for just that purpose.
Carefully choose sites related to your niche and list your business there. Now you have some trusted sites added to your backlink profile.
Additionally, other website owners can find you there as well. Publishing to others is the first step to getting more backlinks in the future.
If your site is already well known, you can also try creating a Wikipedia page about it. Even if a link from Wikipedia is nofollow, the website itself has a lot of power and can share some of it with you.
3. Run a blog and write articles on related topics
To get backlinks, your website must include link-worthy content. The more the better. Write about different but related topics related to your field or business. for example:
- your product.
- Industry news.
- Interesting case study.
- Recent events at your company.
- Interviews with clients and partners.
The options are endless. The more you know about your work, the more you can share with your visitors. Curious writers attract curious readers. Grab your pen and run wild!
There are a few more things you can do to get more backlinks when creating content.
- Optimize for keywords. The higher your content appears in searches, the more likely users are to find it and optionally link to it in their own content. Use WebCEO's keyword research tools to find the search queries your target audience uses most often.
- List sources with links. If you mention other sources in your content, listing them will make you appear more authoritative, especially if those sources are also good. And users prefer links to trusted sites.
- Links to other pages on the Site. Help your visitors find all the content they need. Navigation and footer bars are essential, as they have links to your home page, FAQ, contact information pages, and more. However, blog articles on related topics should also be linked together in case users need more information.
4. Write a guest article
Good old guest blog! A proven method to build links. Write an article for another site and include a link to your site – what could be easier than this?
Of course, there are pitfalls. There are two important steps to take first.
- Find relevant sites whose backlinks will benefit you.
- Convince them to accept a guest post from you.
You probably already know how to use Competitor Backlink Spy to find backlink donors. Local bloggers, newspapers and magazines cannot hide from you.

If you don't get a response, it's okay to try again, using different text to indicate it's not your first attempt.
Be polite and remember it's for both of you. Good luck!
5. Turn unlinked mentions into links
If you've been around for a while and have been in business, people are bound to talk about you. Also on their site.
This is the easiest way to create backlinks. Someone has already mentioned your business on the site. Most of the work is now complete. All that's left is to add the link.
Contact the person who can edit the page (via email or social media) and ask them to include your site's URL in the mention. It's over, it's over.
Finding unlinked mentions is even easier. Just use a tool like WebCEO's Web Buzz Monitoring.
Just add your brand name to settingand the tool finds pages with unlinked mentions.
6. Provide a great user experience
Who would want to link to a page that is barely functional? I am certainly not one to hand out backlinks. Even regular users will run away if a page doesn't work or is simply unpleasant to the eyes.
On the other hand, pages that offer great UX have nothing but positives to offer.
- User activity that leads to conversions (can be spread across your site).
- positive customer reviews.
- Google ranking goes up.
- And of course, new backlinks.
Imagine the perfect web page of your dreams. Or think back to the best web page you've ever visited. Then create the same thing (or even better if possible) on your own site.
What's the secret to achieving the best user experience?
- Useful, high-quality content. With Google's helpful content updates, being helpful is more important than ever. A page can provide useful information and be optimized with the best keywords, but if it doesn't actually help your visitors, that's a big problem.
- High quality visuals. Users love eye-catching images and videos, especially ones that not only inform but also entertain. Please make sure the image is loaded correctly. If there are any mismatches, use WebCEO's technical audit tools to find and replace them.
- There are no site errors. Broken images are just one problem that can ruin your site. Use the same technical audit tools to scan for any kind of errors and fix them as soon as possible.
- Fast loading speed. A page that loads slowly is a useless page. Once the visitor leaves, nothing happens there. Test your site pages using WebCEO's speed optimization tool and follow our tips to make your pages load faster.
- Mobile friendly. Smartphones generate just as much traffic as PCs, so your site should be optimized for screens of all sizes. Use mobile optimization tools to scan your site and follow our recommendations to make it even more mobile-friendly.
- User accessibility. Make sure your site is easy for everyone to use, regardless of physical ability. Test your site using tools like EquallyAI's ARIA to see where you can improve.
7. Remove harmful backlinks
Next, make sure your backlink profile isn't negatively impacting your site. What kind of backlinks make that possible?
- I bought backlinks.
- Spammy backlinks.
- Links from unrelated sites.
- Links from unauthorized sites.
If Google detects too many such backlinks in your profile, your site may be considered untrustworthy and your search rankings may suffer. Manual action may also be required.
You can’t allow harmful backlinks to pile up and fall.
Scan your backlink profile using WebCEO's Toxic Pages tool.
By default, we look for link pages that are clearly spam, that is, link pages that have a large number of outbound links and a low trust level. If necessary, adjust the tool's search criteria to your liking. setting. If you trust a particular domain, you can also exclude it from the tool's searches.
Once you have created a list of harmful backlinks, start removing them. The options are:
- Remove backlinks from those pages yourself.
- Please ask someone who can edit those pages to do so.
- Generate a disavow list with Toxic Pages and submit it to Google Disavow.
