Stacey Solomon has revealed how she became so resourceful around the house.
Fifteen years after she shot to fame on The X Factor, Stacey is now known for her home hacks. Her DIY renovation of her family's mansion, Pickle Cottage, has earned her 5.9 million followers on Instagram, her book deal and her two home renovation shows. It has come true..
Speaking on This Morning on Monday, the mother-of-five revealed that her parents taught her from a young age to take care of herself.
“Our parents always taught us to do anything,” she told Cat Deeley and Ben Shepherd.
“I always say that my family is my greatest privilege. Both my mother and father believed strongly in being independent.”
“Because of our upbringing and where we grew up, my dad would always say to us, 'I don't know if we'll have the money to hire someone to do something.'
“You need to learn, you need to do it, you don't want to be stuck somewhere with a leaky pipe or something, so he taught us almost all the basics. As a kid, I We are very, very lucky in that sense, thank you, Dad!”
Stacey grew up in Dagenham with her father David, a photographer, and mother Fiona, a nurse. After her parents divorced and moved on to another relationship when Stacey was nine years old, she has an older brother and sister, as well as one step-sister, two step-brothers, and a half-brother. Masu.
Stacey's latest DIY project is Channel 4's new series Renovation Rescue, which premiered last week.
On the show, the handy star helps people left in the lurch by cowboy builders, teaching them DIY hacks to save money and get renovations back on track.
Renovation Rescue is produced by Hollywood star Reese Witherspoon's production company Hello Sunshine, and Stacey said she was honored to be a part of it.
“She didn't call me,” she insisted. “In her dreams, that would happen. She wanted to do her first show in England.”
“I don't think she even knows who I am, but that was really a compliment. I thought, 'Wow, now I can go to Hollywood.'
Stacey also produces the award-winning DIY show Sort Your Life Out, which aired on the BBC for four series and recently won an award.
The star gave up her singing career for 15 years after wowing Simon Cowell on The X Factor.
“I still sing at the request of my grandmother who is in a nursing home,” she said. “I love singing, but there's no pressure. My family still drives me on special occasions.
“It's amazing to think that The X Factor was 15 years ago. I never thought I would still have a career. I'm lucky to have had that opportunity in the first place.”
