The Cleveland Browns have one of the best fan bases in the entire NFL, if not the best. Fans who read sites like ours, especially ours, are more educated and have a more in-depth understanding and inside information about their teams.
The Browns only have six picks in this year's NFL Draft after Friday's trades, but Cleveland fans are still diligently preparing for the draft, including various mock drafts and mock draft simulators.
The Browns don't have any immediate needs to fill out the roster, but they do have some interesting needs down the road, including offensive tackle, defensive lineman and wide receiver. Interestingly, that's exactly what Cleveland fans have been looking for when using Pro Football Network's mock draft simulator.
Thanks to the good folks at PFN, we have some data on Browns-related selections on the simulator. Given this year's lack of picks, it's no surprise that Cleveland had the third-fewest picks of any team last week. The Chicago Bears, who have the No. 1 and No. 9 picks, have been used more than 150,000 times, while Cleveland has used them about 13,500 fewer times.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had about 10,000 users of PFN's simulator last week.
Browns fans most frequently selected the following positions:
- Defensive tackle – 18.87%
- Linebacker – 12.68%
- Offensive Tackle – 12.59%
- Wide receiver – 11.48%
In addition to kickers and punters, centers, cornerbacks, quarterbacks, and edge defenders were selected less than 6% of the time.
Given Cleveland's offseason, defensive tackle could be a tough spot to find space for other players. GM Andrew Berry has already Dalvin Tomlinson, Shelby Harris, Maurice Hearst, Quinton Jefferson and Shiaki Squidthe position of last year's third-round selection.
The Browns' five most frequently selected players have some interesting names.
- Kiran Amegaji, OT, Yale University
- Michael Hall Jr., DT, Ohio State
- Roger Rosengarten, Ottawa, WA
- Jeremiah Trotter Jr., LB, Clemson
- Luke Oloholohoro, DT, Clemson
While linemen on both sides of the ball are often linked to Cleveland, and while Trotter is a name many fans know, draft analysts have concerns about his play.
What's interesting is that the Browns don't have a wide receiver in their top 13 draft picks. With such depth and players who fit into the team, aspiring GMs had a lot of options. His five players were selected the most for the team:
- Xavier Leggett, South Carolina
- Devontez Walker, North Carolina
- Malachi Corey, Western Kentucky
- Luke McCaffrey, Rice
- Ricky Pearsall, Florida
