(Reuters) – Hollywood performers and media professionals have reached a tentative agreement with major record labels including Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment that includes higher minimum wages and protections for the use of artificial intelligence.
The agreement covers a five-year period from 2021 to 2026 and was unanimously approved by the SAG-AFTRA Executive Committee, which represents approximately 160,000 actors and other media workers, the union said in a statement on its website. He said it was approved.
AI has emerged as a major concern in the entertainment industry, and the issue was at the center of negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and major studios last year, which ultimately led to a deal in November after months of strikes. Ta.
The music industry is particularly excited about songs created by generative AI. Generative AI is a technology that allows internet users to easily imitate an artist's voice, often without their consent.
The SAG-AFTRA union said its tentative agreements with record labels require both consent and compensation before songs using digital replicas of artists' voices are released.
It further added that the terms “artist”, “singer” and “royalty artist” can only refer to human beings under the agreement.
“This agreement ensures that our members are protected. Technology can enhance the creative process, but the essence of music must always be rooted in authentic human expression and experience.” said Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator.
Other highlights of the agreement include improving health and retirement options and increasing the percentage of streaming revenue covered by donations.
A final ratification vote by member states is expected in the coming weeks.
