Microsoft will unveil a brand new artificial intelligence tool for use on PCs and in the cloud at its annual Build conference, according to a session list posted Wednesday.
In January, Nadella told analysts that by 2024, “AI will be [a] “The finest component for every PC,” and Microsoft's May conference dates reflect those goals. Microsoft has reported significant revenue increases from clients running AI models on the Azure public cloud, and the company hopes to continue this trend by rolling out new products. AI features for developers.
Mustafa Suleiman, the new head of Microsoft AI, will join CEO Satya Nadella and other longtime executives in the show's opening keynote in Seattle. Suleyman, a co-founder of his AI startup DeepMind, which Google acquired in 2014, joined Microsoft last month from startup Inflection AI.
For years, people looking to get the most out of their Windows operating system have been able to install PowerToys, an open-source bundle of utilities such as image resizing widgets and keyboard shortcut customization programs. At Build, Microsoft will discuss a new Advanced Paste feature that leverages AI models that run directly on people's PCs, rather than sending data to the cloud and receiving responses.
The software maker will also talk about new AI features that will “enable users to more deeply interact with their digital lives on Windows,” according to one session description. Developers will be able to integrate these features into their Windows applications.
As part of its AI PC strategy, Microsoft introduced Surface PCs in March with a Copilot button that provides quick access to the company's chatbot. These machines are equipped with Intel processors. Microsoft has been working for years to improve the user experience on Windows PCs by running energy-efficient chips on the Arm architecture, rather than the standard x86 modules used by Intel. At Build, Microsoft will discuss how Windows apps can leverage Arm-based neural processing engines (NPUs) for AI.
Organizations building their own chatbots in Azure AI Studio will learn about new features related to AI safety. This is intended to reduce the likelihood that the model will generate statements about sex or violence or pose a security risk.
Microsoft is also committed to making Azure easier to use overall. The company describes enhancements to its Copilot chatbot that are accessible on Azure. Some clients are currently available in preview mode.
