Eaton, which sells power management technology, has launched a modular data center that can help governments deploy edge computing, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
The company recently debuted its SmartRack modular data center.
Eaton said through a spokesperson that the new product line is “designed for rapid deployment in facilities such as colocation data centers, manufacturing facilities and warehouses.”
Edge computing refers to placing servers closer to data sources, which improves communication speeds. In doing so, public authorities and other organizations can improve their services through real-time data analysis and other capabilities.
Activities that could benefit from edge computing include utilities, public safety and smart city projects, according to technology advocates.
At least by some estimates, state and local governments plan to increase spending on edge computing by more than 100%.Most of the spending comes from the US
Eaton said the rise of edge computing and improvements in technology infrastructure with these new data centers will also lead to improvements in AI and machine learning, one of the hottest trends in government technology. That's it.
“The competition continues as the rapid growth of AI and edge computing increases the demand for smaller data centers with shorter development cycles, lower costs and optimized capacity.”Eaton Product Management Director Jose Medina said in a statement. “Deploying a new data center has traditionally been a costly and time-consuming task, but we are using innovative solutions to simplify the process and help operators get up and running in days rather than weeks or months. I made it.”
Eaton said the new modular data center will be available in 13 standard configurations.
