It's been more than a year since DIY Network canceled Jeff Devlin's reality series, but… stone house revivalThe owners of Exton's Schoolhouse Woodworking don't sit around collecting saw dust. Lisa Arnett reported on Devlin's career revamp at HGTV.
stone house revival was a repair program that focused on centuries-old houses. The work was difficult and often complex, but the result is an eye-catching mashup of historical depth and modern chic.
Episodes often focused on Devlin's custom carpentry skills. He once handmade colonial-era bars and stools. “I've wanted to do it for years,” he said. “I pushed myself a little bit and almost exhausted myself.”
Devlin became interested in woodworking at an early age and began building birdhouses. PBS rebroadcast this old house It sparked his desire to scale up.
However, it took time to understand the history of architecture.
“When I was a kid, I'd go to Colonial Williamsburg and see people wearing ascots and think, 'What a weird bunch of people,'” Devlin said.
It was the physical contact with wood, connected to a building's past, that opened his eyes to the value of creating heritage.
