Current and former AT&T customers beware.
The mobile and internet service provider says it suffered a massive data breach that may have exposed the personal information of an estimated 7.6 million AT&T customers and 65.4 million former customers, totaling 73 million users. was confirmed over the weekend.
AT&T said the data set was leaked to the “dark web” about two weeks ago. It's unclear whether the leak came from AT&T or a third-party vendor.

Compromised data may include social security numbers, names, phone numbers, AT&T account information (numbers and passcodes), and email and mailing addresses.
“At this time, AT&T has no evidence that any data sets were compromised as a result of unauthorized access to its systems. The company is actively communicating with those affected and, where applicable, providing credit at our expense.” monitoring,” the company said in a release. “As of today, this incident has not had a material impact on AT&T's operations.”
The company also revealed that the data “appears” to belong to people who created accounts before 2019.
News of the breach was originally posted to X on March 17th by the tech account @vx-underground, which claimed that “the stolen data was legitimate” and that it had been leaked to the dark web platform Breached.
Today, over 7,000,000 records from an unspecified division of AT&T were leaked to Breached. No information is available indicating whether it is a third-party compromise or what “department” this data comes from.
In any case, the investigation confirms that the stolen data is legitimate.

Earlier this year, in February, AT&T suffered a massive outage that affected approximately 75% of its total customers. CEO John Stankey confirmed that customers “most impacted” by the service interruption will receive a $5 credit to their accounts.
