Accurate historical education is essential
According to a Southern Poverty Law Center staff report, “The current wave of state legislatures' efforts to censor inclusive education and accurate history underscores the urgent need to understand and learn from our nation's past.” Clearly, political, social, racial and economic equality has not yet been achieved after four centuries. ”
In fact, the increasing drumbeat of MAGA aims to bring America back to the Jim Crow era of hatred, white privilege, and intimidation.
It is said that if we don't know history, we might repeat it. Therefore, if we do not want to repeat the sins of the past, we must educate our people about the past through schools and other media. The desire to know and learn will overcome print censorship because there will always be a thirst to know the truth.
SPLC has published a publication to help teach high school students about Black Americans' struggle for equality. If you want to pass on information to the next generation, please support this effort.
As an octogenarian who lived during the civil rights movement, I am shocked that young people are shocked by the true and actual American history and the oppression of so many people. They don't believe in discrimination. Accurate history is essential.

Aid to Israel should be diverted to local problems
Orlando's share of the funds sent to Israel is more than $4 million, according to the website notmytaxdollars.org. Not My Tax Dollars lists what that money can do for Orlando residents. For example, you can provide low-income housing to more than 500 families. This is very relevant in today's political climate because the governor just signed a bill that basically outlaws homelessness.
Why would my tax dollars go to support Israel against Gaza when so many people have a NIMBY (not in my backyard) philosophy towards neighborhood shelters? Why aren't we, as members of the community, lifting these people up and asking for a much-needed hand up? Rents are rising by the day, and resources to care for them. In the meantime, more people will become homeless.
Too many people want to ignore programs and institutions like Lynx and SunRail that support socially responsible people. We want people to be able to take care of themselves, but too many obstacles make that impossible.
We believe in working with local and state leaders to stop being fooled by fearmongers and to care about people in our own backyards. If we continue to close our eyes to the suffering here and in Gaza, many more people will suffer. For ourselves and for our brothers and sisters in Gaza, we must say: no further support to Israel. Bring that money back to our city and help our local neighbors achieve their best lives in any way they need.

descendants of immigrants
At a time when some politicians and much of the political right are hostile to immigrants, it's important to remind them of one fact.
Every man, woman, and child in the United States is an immigrant, a son or daughter of an immigrant, or a descendant of an immigrant. There are no exceptions.
All people came here from somewhere. The only difference is that some arrived earlier than others.
