The rollout of Samsung's latest Galaxy AI features will begin this Thursday, March 28, the company confirmed today. With the latest One UI 6.1 update, older Samsung devices like last year's Galaxy S23 series, Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, and Tab S9 series now have Circle to Search, Chat Assist, and Generative Edit.

“Galaxy AI brings our groundbreaking suite of AI tools into the palm of more users' hands in a variety of form factors, tailoring the mobile experience to their needs. Now, Samsung is introducing Galaxy AI capabilities. to even more users across the Galaxy ecosystem,” the company said in a press release on Tuesday.
The complete list of Galaxy AI features on older Samsung devices includes:
- Communication services: chat assist, interpretation, live translation
- Productivity services: Circle to Search, Note Assist, Browsing Assist, Transcript Assist
- Creative services: generative editing, editorial suggestions, instant slow motion
When we reviewed the Galaxy S24 series back in January, we tested nearly all of the latest AI features and were pleased to find that most of them skewed more towards the practical side than gimmicks. In particular, Circle to Search has become my go-to way to instantly know what's on my phone's screen, and when I traveled to Barcelona for the World Congress on Mobile, Interpreter Mode It was helpful.
It would be nice to have users of older devices on board with the upcoming One UI 6.1 update, but Samsung seems to be prioritizing models released in 2023 first. For that, galaxy s23S23 Plus, S23 Ultra, S23FE, Z fold 5, Z flip 5, Tab S9, Tab S9 Plus, and Tab S9 Ultra.
Specifically, Samsung has said that the rollout of this feature will happen to devices purchased directly from Samsung, as well as third-party retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy. and Carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. The last point is the most surprising since carrier devices usually come with modified software and often take longer to maintain and push updates. So while the company promises that these dedicated devices will also come with new Galaxy AI features, the actual pace may be slower than this. I hope for the best.

Your guess is as accurate as mine when it comes to the conditions under which older devices can take advantage of the latest Galaxy AI features. If the chipset is involved, it's probably Galaxy S22 series, Z flip 4 and Z fold 4and Tab S8 series They're all powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the same processor as the S23 FE, so that's next on the receiving end. Given Samsung's recent momentum with software updates, I wouldn't be surprised if that moment comes sooner rather than later.
