Poland claims that a Russian cruise missile aimed at Ukraine entered its territory and has demanded an explanation from the Russian government.
“At 4:23 a.m. on March 24, tonight there was a violation of Polish airspace by a cruise missile fired by long-range aviation of the Russian Federation,” the Polish Armed Forces Operations Command announced on X.

The report came after Ukrainian officials said Russia had launched around 20 missiles and seven Shahed attack drones targeting the Lviv region in western Ukraine, near the Polish border. Multiple explosions were also reported in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
The head of the Lviv regional military junta, Maksym Kozytsky, said that Russia attacked critical Ukrainian infrastructure in the western region of Lviv.
“There were two prior attacks on the same critical infrastructure facility that the intruders targeted during the night,” Kozitsky said on Telegram.
The operational command announced on the X news agency that both Polish and allied aircraft were activated.
“All necessary procedures to ensure the security of Polish airspace have been activated,” the command added.
“Polish armed forces are continuously monitoring the situation on the territory of Ukraine and remain on constant alert to ensure the security of Polish airspace,” it said.
The last time Russia violated Polish airspace was on December 29, 2023.
