After successfully establishing water and wastewater management technology, Norwegian digital analytics company InfoTiles is extending its innovative artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) tools into the energy sector for the first time.
In partnership with Norwegian energy company Lnett, a minimum viable product (MVP) will be developed by summer 2024. This includes developing analytical tools to provide efficient and rapid decision support for Lnett's grid development. The tool must work effectively while leaving room for further development and improvement in the future.
Lnett aims to develop solutions that can define, calculate, and analyze different grid alternatives using large amounts of data beyond the capabilities of manual methods. This includes analysis of parameters such as electricity demand forecasts, investment costs, operating conditions, and geographic data.
Tron Windsor, Chief Executive Officer of Lnett, said: “Collaboration and digitization in the energy sector will continue as energy systems become increasingly complex, with decentralization, electrification and future flexibility markets shaping their trajectory. It is extremely important to emphasize the importance of
“To connect more customers, make better use of the existing power grid and ensure a stable power supply in the future, we need to increase collaboration and digitalization in the industry. Exciting R&D Projects We have high expectations for InfoTiles.”
InfoTiles has already made significant progress in supporting data-driven advances in the water sector in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland and the UK. InfoTiles leverages AI to streamline water and wastewater network management processes, enabling data analysis in minutes instead of months.
Because water and energy are closely linked through the water-energy nexus, InfoTiles is well-positioned to address challenges in the energy sector. Energy use plays a key role in water management, from drinking water production and transportation to wastewater collection and treatment. Conversely, all forms of energy production are highly dependent on water use.
Johnny Alexander, CEO of InfoTiles, said: “The opportunity to work with Lnett and demonstrate how InfoTiles technology can be applied to the energy sector and become a universally applicable solution for all utility-related challenges is very exciting for InfoTiles. It’s meaningful.”
InfoTiles was selected as a collaboration partner through the StartOff project launched by Lnett in December 2023. As a state-funded initiative, the project was allocated his NOK 600,000 (£45,000) for the collaboration.
StartOff's aim is to support startups and companies in the early stages of product development to meet the evolving needs of the public sector, providing guidance and project support throughout the process.
Sondre Lilledrange, project manager at Lnett, said: “Lnett has innovative technology that integrates and analyzes different types of data to make informed decisions when selecting options for future grid development. We need a solution.”
“We're going to build more power grids in the next 10 to 15 years than we have in the last 100 years, so today's choice is critical for our customers.”
