With this debut album, Delirium's Francis confidently asserts his creative vision and voice. Throughout 'Lighthouse', each track exudes a savvy youthfulness blended with established pop and rock influences, with verses such as 'First Touch' and 'Something's Changed' building to strong, expansive choruses. It blooms. Opening track “Ballet Dancers (Never Love Again)” has rolling harmonies and guitars that contrast with the sweeter, quieter moments found later on the album. This boldness continues, interspersed with inherently likable pop moments like the chorus of “Want You” and the energetic guitar line of “Blue Tuesday.” Lyrically, “Lighthouse” explores themes of growth and love without falling into cliché. Although there are moments of both euphoria and anxiety, Jana Barich shows the beautiful simplicity behind embracing the hope inherent in change. The almost cinematic instrumentation of her final track “Give It Back to Me” reflects a desire to elevate the mundane to true emotional complexity, and throughout “Lighthouse” It reflects a clearly demonstrated level of musicality. Jana, who was at the forefront of the music scene in her homeland of Luxembourg, was clearly keen to push forward a new era of indie rock through the success of her three EPs to date. This broader body of work demonstrates the exciting growth and potential of Francis of Delirium.
