ACE established the Donna Shavlik Award to honor the long and distinguished service of Donna Shavlik, former director of ACE's Office of Women in Higher Education. Established in 1999, the annual award highlights individuals who have made ongoing contributions to the advancement of women in higher education through efforts to strengthen leadership and career development, campus climate, and mentoring.
Hass, who has led CIC since 2021, is a philosopher, leader, award-winning teacher, mentor, author, and influential thinker in independent higher education. As president of CIC, she oversees the organization's programs to ensure the active participation of a diverse membership, promotes financial health and innovation among members, and supports her CIC as a champion of independent higher education. We are strengthening our position.
“We are very happy for Marjorie,” said Muhlenberg President Kathleen Harring. “She has provided wise advice and guidance to women leaders at all levels of higher education. Marjorie has been a strong advocate for the liberal arts and Muhlenberg. This honor is well-deserved.”
Prior to leading CIC, Hass served as president of Rhodes College and Austin College. Mr. Hass, who came to Muhlenberg in 1993, served as associate professor of philosophy and interim administrator until being appointed provost in 2004.
“I am very honored to be recognized by ACE,” said Hass. Press release from Ace. “And I would like to thank everyone who has supported me and my efforts to empower women as leaders in higher education.”
