JAMISON, Pa. — Dr. Mark Covell, executive director of Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT) in Jamison, will be one of 15 educators from across the state as part of an international education delegation to visit Germany in April 2024. was selected.

This international study group is a first for the PSBA Trust Institute (PSBA-IN), which is organizing the trip in partnership with the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA). The 15-member study group will focus on the German education system with the goal of making recommendations to Pennsylvania school districts to significantly improve the district's academic, administrative, facilities, and culture.
This study group is a diverse group comprised of people with varying experience and different roles within Pennsylvania's education system, including elected school board directors, superintendents, business managers, principals, and career and technical center administrators. It is made up of a team. Prior to traveling abroad, participants will meet virtually with German education, business, and government leaders to gain a fundamental understanding of German institutions, academic approaches, and policies.
Once in Germany, the group will visit Bonn, Cologne and Dortmund, touring schools and meeting with education and civic leaders. These exchanges were designed to gather ideas that could be implemented in Pennsylvania school districts, including how the German education system works, achieves results, and how it is funded. School tours at the primary and secondary level provide first-hand experience to gain a valuable understanding of the structure of the German education system and provide an opportunity to meet school administrators, educators, and students. To provide a comprehensive understanding of the education system, tours to German companies and manufacturers are planned, where participants will see on-the-job training opportunities and hear employers' views on the German education system. can do.
After returning from this immersive educational experience, participants will share what they learned through articles published by PSBA-IN and PSBA, and by serving as presenters and panelists at the 2024 PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference. share.
