President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump held dueling events in Georgia on Saturday, with both attacking the other as their White House rematch gets into full swing.
Here's what you need to know:
Biden's swing continues after State of the Union address
The president delivered fiery remarks at a rally in Atlanta, criticizing Trump for hosting Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at his Mar-a-Lago club on Friday. Biden said the former president has been “sucked up by would-be dictators and authoritarian thugs around the world.”
Biden reiterated his views on the 2024 general election, calling it “a contest between competing factions in the battle for the soul of this country.”
President Trump slams Biden in State of the Union address
At his first rally since emerging as the Republican presidential nominee, President Trump criticized Biden's State of the Union address, calling it “partisan” and “angry.”
“Two nights ago, we all heard crooked Joe's angry, dark, hateful rant at the State of the Union,” President Trump said at a rally in Rome, Georgia.
Laken Riley Murder
In an interview with MSNBC on Saturday, Biden said he should have used the word “unlawful” about Laken Riley, after calling him “unlawful” during Thursday's State of the Union address.
Riley, the 22-year-old nursing student who police said was killed by an illegal immigrant on the University of Georgia campus last month, was the focus of President Trump's event on Saturday. Signs featuring Riley were handed out to the crowd, and her parents met with Trump backstage before he spoke.
President Trump criticized President Biden after he said he should not have used the word “illegal.”
“He was an illegal immigrant. He was an illegal alien. He was an illegal immigrant. He shouldn't be in our country and never could have been under Trump policies,” the former president said. “Biden should apologize for apologizing to this murderer.”
