NEW DELHI: A video showing a fully autonomous AI robot groping a reporter during an interview at a technology festival in Saudi Arabia has gone viral on social media, causing a stir.
Journalist Raya Kasem was speaking in front of a robot named Mohammad when the robot appeared to inappropriately move toward her, the BBC reported. Kasem immediately moved away from the robot and motioned for it to stop. The incident took place at the AI event DeepFest in Riyadh.
Developers Mohammad from robotics company QSS said the robot operates independently without human control. “We have already thoroughly investigated the footage and the circumstances of the incident, and while there was no deviation from Muhammad's expected behavior, we have added precautions to ensure that anyone within the robot's range of motion does not approach the robot. ”QSS told Metro UK.
Some speculate that the robot was simply asking Qassem to come forward, as Mohammad is bilingual and was created to help advance technology, according to Metro UK.
Social media users had mixed reactions to the incident, with some slamming the robot as “creepy”. Others suggested that it was a misunderstanding and that humans, not robots, were to blame.
DeepFest organizers emphasized their commitment to safety and health, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe distance from robots during demonstrations.
The incident raises questions about the boundaries and behavior of AI robots. Meanwhile, the festival described Mr. Mohammed as a testament to Saudi Arabia's commitment to innovation.
