FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington is proud to announce that three UMF faculty members have been recognized by the Maine Association for the Education of Young Children for their exceptional contributions to the future of the early childhood education field in Maine.
MaineAEYC promotes a diverse and dynamic early childhood education profession and supports all those who care for, educate, and work with young children.
UMF Early Childhood Education Professor Patricia Williams was honored as “Today's Outstanding Early Childhood Education Leader.” She said Williams worked to improve the lives of children, families and teachers and was recognized as a statewide advocate and influential change agent.
She received various grants designed to address the teacher shortage in Maine. One of her initiatives is to partner with Maine AEYC's TEACH Scholarship Program to support early childhood and early childhood special educators in earning their degrees using an apprenticeship model program. .
UMF Early Childhood Education Professor Donna Carno was honored as a 20+ year member of MaineAEYC since its founding in 2004. This Legacy Award recognizes Mr. Carno's long-term dedication to promoting high-quality learning for all children. From birth to 8 years old.
Lee Ann Fish, UMF Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education, has been named to the list of “Most Influential People in Maine AEYC History.” She has played a major role in shaping the organization over the past 20 years, serving as a member of the Board of Directors for seven years, including three years as President.
In addition to these higher education professionals, several current UMF students and UMF alumni were featured in the magazine's “20 Young Teachers to Watch” article. Theodora Bailey, an early childhood special education major at the University of Farmington, and Ashley Jones, an early childhood education major at Norridgewock University, both have the potential to be great teachers, coaches, advocates, and leaders in early education.
