JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – The American Council on Education (ACE) has named Dr. Darryl A. Carter of East Tennessee State University (ETSU) an ACE Fellow, the university announced Tuesday.
At ETSU, Carter is professor of history, associate dean for community relations and outreach, and director of the Black Studies Program.
“I am excited and humbled by the confidence that Dr. Noland and the American Council on Education have placed in me,” said Carter. “This fellowship gives me tremendous opportunities to hone my existing skills, build new skills, and learn best practices in academic and organizational leadership.”
During the program, fellows observe and work with senior executives, attend decision-making meetings, and focus on issues of interest that benefit their institutions.
Carter is one of only 26 people appointed as an ACE Fellow in 2024.
A release from ETSU states that fellows who participated in the program have gone on to become chief executive officers, chief academic officers, other cabinet-level positions and deans.
“The ACE Fellows Program is the longest-running leadership development program in the United States,” said ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland. “Dr. Carter has not only demonstrated the highest level of expertise as a researcher and scholar, he has shown himself to be a passionate, thoughtful, and effective leader both on our campus and in our community. ”
