This is the evening forecast for Monday, March 4, 2024, from Minnesota Weather Bureau and Meteorologist Matt Serwe.
The ground turned white in parts of southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin on Monday. Dry air swallowed up most of the rain and snow in the Twin Cities, while a thin line of heavy snowfall fell from near Owatonna to Baldwin and areas east. Even if there is snow today, it will be gone tomorrow. High temperatures will return to the upper 40s and low 50s in the Twin Cities through the middle of the week.
Snow is possible across northern Minnesota Tuesday and Wednesday. There's a chance for a bit of a snowstorm tomorrow, but there's a good chance of snow accumulation north of Alexandria and Brainerd on Wednesday. Totals should range from about 2 to 4 inches around Bemidji, then just 1 to 2 inches closer to northern Cass County. The Twin Cities may see a few light rain or snow showers Wednesday night, but measurable precipitation is unlikely.
Spotted rain and snow are possible Thursday into Friday. Questions remain about how several weak systems cluster together over the Great Lakes, which determines where rain falls. Nighttime temperatures will still drop into the 20s to 30s, so it will be cold enough to snow in some places. In any case, precipitation should be on the low side, and after a very dry start to the year any rain would be welcome.
