A DIY enthusiast bought B&Q to transform a small bathroom in just one day. People are “in awe” of the finished result.
Victoria works as a full-time doctor by day and spends her free time renovating her parents' home, sharing her progress with her 40,000 followers on Instagram (@_victoriahomes).
And she always aims to make the most of her time when it comes to makeover projects.
She said, “Life is so busy and work takes up so much of our day that it's easy to think we don't have enough time to make our DIY dreams come true.”
But with one more day in February, Victoria took on the challenge of decorating the ground floor bathroom of her home in just 24 hours.
She had already installed a new toilet, sink, tile and unit in the room, but still needed finishing touches.
So the savvy doctor paneled the walls, pasted wallpaper, installed coverings, and even made his own mirrors.
Here's how she described her day: “Firstly, I’m going to order everything online from B&Q.
“Then, once I have finished all my orders, I go to the store to pick them up.
“Honestly, having everything under one roof makes this job a lot faster.
“Okay, now let's get down to some DIY work.”
She added: “In one day's work, you could put up some paneling and wallpaper, and you could even make a mirror, hang a mirror, and put up a ceiling.”
Social media users are loving Victoria's finished look, claiming she makes DIY look easy.
One person said: “In one day!!! I'm in awe. Everything you think you can do in one day takes at least four days.”
A second person wrote: “Great job! You made it look so easy.”
A third added: “Amazing. You must be so proud.”
Meanwhile, a fourth agreed: “You did an amazing job! I never thought of taking on a toilet project and you made it so easy. Well done.”
Victoria's One Day Project comes after research revealed that almost 40% of Brits would start a DIY project if they had more time.
In fact, a third (36%) already have at least one unfinished project underway, and lack of time is the number one reason projects are abandoned or delayed.
80% of people are interested in improving their home, and almost two-thirds (64%) doubt whether they can do it.
When asked about their motivations for restarting a project, the most common response was “to spend more time” (25%), followed by clear step-by-step instructions (23%), great value (21%), and immediate is able to access. They rely on educational materials (17%) and have support from family and friends (14%).
And when it comes to reasons why projects are paused, needing more time is the number one reason, followed by cost.
So B&Q is helping people reclaim their Leap Day this year by using the extra day to start or finish a DIY project.
A B&Q spokesperson said: “We know that 64% of people have doubts about doing DIY projects, and our new research shows that a lack of time prevents people from starting or finishing a DIY project. We know that. B&Q wants to empower people to start their own DIY projects.'' Launching the first 'You Can Do It' day.
“With an extra day this year, there’s no better reason to tackle that project you’ve been brewing for months.
“When products and advice are readily available, it becomes easier to overcome that doubt and believe that you can do it.
“With B&Q, we believe we can deliver 500,000 products to 300 stores across the country, with one-hour click and collect.”
