LUMBERTON – Robeson Community College’s early childhood education program has been selected to participate in a national project to better prepare early childhood education professionals.
The project is supported by a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services and directed by the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (FPG). Colleagues at FPG and RCC are collaborating on Supporting Preschool Education Change and Reform in North Carolina (SCRIPT-NC), which provides associate degree early childhood professionals with support for all early childhood education, including children from diverse cultures and languages. We focus on helping people better meet their needs. , ability and their families.
“We are excited to work with the Franklin Porter Graham Child Development Institute to improve curriculum content and practices,” said Dr. Phoebe Harris, program director of education programs at Robeson Community College. Stated. “These efforts will help us continue our efforts to meet the needs of young children in southeastern North Carolina.”
Harris continued, “Furthermore, our programs want to provide our stakeholders with a quality workforce that can provide developmentally appropriate experiences for future generations. This project supports those efforts. To do.”
In addition to Robeson Community College, two other early childhood community college programs in North Carolina will be selected to collaborate with SCRIPT-NC. The SCRIPT-NC team (Chih-Ing Lim, Camille Catlett, Jessica Amsbary, and Hsiu-wen Yang) provides intensive professional development and shares evidence-based practices and content to help RCC students help their children. We will continue to better prepare ourselves to respond to the diverse needs of our customers. their families, their communities. Construction will begin this spring.
