President Charles Robinson recently received the Platinum Achievement Award from Fort Valley State University's Cooperative Development Energy Program (CDEP).
Dr. Isaac J. Crumbley, who founded CDEP in 1983, said, “Fort Valley State University's Collaborative Development Energy Program is a partnership with minorities who have held high-level positions in America's energy fields, government, education, or business. We are honoring women.” This year, CDEP is proud to honor the accomplishments in higher education of Dr. Charles Robinson, the University of Arkansas' first black president. ”
The evaluation comes as Robinson celebrates his 25th anniversary at the University of California. He joined the university in 1999 as an assistant professor of history and was promoted to full professor in 2011. Robinson also served as director of the African and African American Studies Program. He served as Vice President for Diversity, Vice President for Student Affairs, President and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, and was appointed interim president in August 2021, and became the seventh president in November 2022. Under Mr. Robinson's leadership, A University has improved its organizational structure. Records in areas such as graduation rates, retention rates, scholarship funding, enrollment and research spending.

Crumbley, a member of the Fort Valley State University College of Arts and Sciences leadership team, founded CDEP 41 years ago to address the underrepresentation of minorities and women in the energy industry. Since then, he has expanded the program to include partnerships with government agencies, industry, and several universities. In 2010, U of A partnered with CDEP on a dual degree program, allowing students to earn a bachelor's degree in chemistry or mathematics at Fort Valley State University, then come to U of A to earn a second bachelor's degree in engineering or geosciences. CDEP has recognized Platinum Achievement Award recipients since 1989. In addition to Robinson, this year's honorees included Robert J. Jones, president of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Josetta Jones, Chevron's chief diversity and inclusion officer.
