SINGAPORE — If you remember Instagram's world record egg, look no further than its successor, Chocolate Strawberry.
A 15-second video of a bowl of chocolate-covered strawberries is on its way to becoming the most-liked TikTok video of all time, with countless others referencing and imitating it. is producing. Some content creators are trying to explain why it's getting so much attention.
On February 6th, TikTok user “Gabs” or “pr4yforgabs” posted a video set to the song “What You Won't Do For Love” by Bobby Caldwell. The wide-angle video, shot with the flash on, moves over the bowl, alternating between close-up and long shots set to music (though people with motion sickness may not like it).
As of Monday afternoon (February 26), the video had been viewed 249 million times, had 34.4 million likes and 389,100 comments.
TikTok sleuths flocked to the comments section of the original and related videos to track its explosive growth compared to the most liked videos on the platform.
For now, that title is still held by Filipino-American social media personality Bella Porch (real name Denary Bautista Taylor), who lip-synced to Millie B's “M to the B” in August 2020. Her video has received 64 million likes. This is followed by the following words:
- “The Man Dancing in the Mirror” (January 2022): User 'jamie32bsh' dances to Nelly Furtado's 'Say It Right' remix while filming herself in the bathroom mirror – 52.5 million people
- “River Flows in You girl” (October 2023): 8-year-old violinist surprises TikTok piano busker 'vantoan___' with impromptu duet of popular Irma song – 51.9 million
- “Sugar Crush Guy” (February 2021): Content creator Nick Luciano lip-syncs to Sugar Crush! Written by EllyOtto — 51.5 million
In the face of these giants, it looks like TikTok's newest golden child still has a long way to go. However, Mexican TikToker “DJ Lost One” pointed out that it has already broken the world record for “fastest growing video and trend in TikTok history.”
According to media reports in September 2020, Poarch's video took about four weeks to surpass the then-champion's elevator dance video by influencer Michael Le (“justmaiko”), which had 25.5 million views at the time.
With this in mind, Chocolate Strawberry's 34.3 million views in just three weeks is a truly amazing feat.
