I made octopus string art for my mom for Mother's Day. She had wanted it for years. I’m really looking forward to giving it to her!
The r/craftit subreddit describes itself as a hub for “open source crafting.” At the time of this writing, the community had 27,000 members.
At first glance, it may seem that this is not many people. After all, many of us are used to seeing influencers and social media projects with hundreds of thousands or even millions of followers. But 27,000 actual artists and creators is actually a pretty impressive number. Case in point, the r/craftit subsub ranks in the top 4% of Reddit community size. And many members are proud to share their latest creations with other Redditors.

I'm a bee lover who learned to crochet last week. I crocheted about 20 pieces in 5 days and my girlfriend's wife is almost hiding my hooks

I have a friend who told me that she hates Christmas wreaths, and I couldn't ignore that. She happens to love Varys's black-nosed sheep, so she gifted her this one last night. She's definitely right when she says she doesn't hate all the garlands anymore.
Most of us are drawn to creating something beyond work or school. This calling can take different forms for different people.
Some people are drawn to architecture, woodworking, home design, gardening, construction, and cooking. Some incorporate dance, music, and filmmaking. Still, some people find their greatest purpose when drawing, writing, painting, embroidering, or doing other things.

Creativity can be found in most activities, so there is no one “right” way to be creative. (Well, maybe not boring paperwork, but even that can be fun when someone is looking for meaning in the boring.) The type of activities you choose to employ is entirely up to you. It depends.
None of us should feel pressured by our social circles to choose something popular over something else we enjoy more.

To allocate size to 3D design, we created a giant tampon body pillow with an optional bloody cover
If you don't feel passionate about a certain style of arts, crafts, or DIY, you won't be able to imitate it for long. After all, we need to enjoy the creative process itself, not just the final result. Indeed, there are many people who dream of becoming a world-famous novelist, a famous architect, an artist who starts a new movement. However, all of these paths require significant emotional investment, time, effort, and dedication.
If you don't fundamentally like writing, designing, or drawing, you won't be able to stick with these activities for long, and you won't get better at them. The advantage is that there is a huge range of creative hobbies and pursuits to choose from. Instead, creating music, taking up embroidery, dancing your heart out, or becoming the world's best chef might be on your path.
Or maybe it's something very niche or unheard of. It's up to us to figure out what we enjoy, what we're good at, and what we're willing to suffer for, and then use those talents to our advantage.
If you're completely new to the artistic hobby, you'll have a great time, albeit a challenging one. There will be a lot of frustration, self-questioning, and mistakes in the future. So before you start, you need to have the right mindset. Accept that you will make mistakes (and there are a lot of them).
However, it's part of the learning process. We cannot grow unless we fail over and over again and learn from the same mistakes.

These collars were sewn by hand. My dog was sweet enough to be a model.
The type of habit you want to form has a huge impact on how long it takes for the behavior to become automatic. The time it takes to start a new diet, brush your teeth more often, start a new exercise regimen, or drink just an extra glass of water each day can vary greatly.
Needless to say, the effort required varies from habit to habit, and you'll need to stay on track with learning new skills every day. Apply the same idea to different artistic pursuits.

Anyone want free bird earrings? I am autistic and I make them as a hobby (I also accept donations for materials and shipping).
According to Healthline, it takes a person 18 to 254 days to form a new habit. The average time to become automatic is approximately 66 days. You may have natural talent in some areas. On the other hand, you may be having a much harder time than the average person in other activities. It's hard to judge how easy or difficult it will be to learn a new skill before you actually step foot in it.

I fell in love with paper flower art. This is one of my first projects
There are many resources on the internet to help you learn new skills. You can also sign up for online or in-person courses, or seek advice from respected experts in the field. Most creators are very friendly and happy to share at least some of their wisdom (as long as you ask politely). It also feels great when I can mentor someone who is new to the field.
However, theory is much easier than practice. It's best to start painting, crocheting, or working with resin as soon as possible. We learn best by doing, not just hype through online tutorials and motivational articles.
Dear pandas, we would love to hear which of the projects on this list you liked best. Which one impressed you the most? And why? Was there anything you were proud to have at home? What arts and crafts projects are you currently working on?
