Doral A gunfight broke out at a Miami-Dade shopping center early Saturday morning, leaving two people dead, including the gunman, and seven others injured.
Police said security personnel intervened after an altercation between customers in the patio area of Martini Bar at CityPlace Doral. Around this time, one of the patrons who was participating in the fight suddenly pulled out a gun and shot the security guard dead.
As a result, the remaining security guards at the facility began a gunfight with the suspects, killing them as well. Six other people at the scene were also injured during the shooting. They include two women and four men, as well as a Doral police officer who was shot in the leg.
Two of the people suffered serious injuries and were taken to Jackson Trauma and HCA Kendall Regional Trauma, respectively, police said at a news conference just before 8 a.m. The remaining four people are said to be in stable condition, but it is unclear whether they were also hospitalized.
Police also said the officer who was shot had been with the force for four years and was wearing a tourniquet during the incident. Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez also noted that just a year ago, officers conducted extensive training in preparation for a mass casualty incident at this location.
