The best thing about IKEA? Their furniture is very affordable. The worst part? Sometimes it seems that way. Now, don't get me wrong. I myself am an avid IKEA shopper. This Swedish retailer has perfected the minimalist yet cozy aesthetic that Scandinavians are known for, and for the price, I'd happily fill my cart. That being said, if you're going to pay $13 for an end table, you can't set your style expectations too high. That is unless you are willing to put in a little effort. It's amazing what new paint, new hardware, and a little grease can do. There are countless IKEA hacks out there, but we've rounded up 12 of the best that will absolutely blow your mind. Let's see if any of these incredible IKEA hacks will inspire you to finally revamp that pair of LACK side tables in your living room.
1.IKEA custom built-in
This amazing library may seem like it will cost an arm and a leg, but it's surprisingly a budget-friendly built-in option. A few bookshelves for BILLY, a can of paint for him, an impressive collection of books, and stylish accessories will complete your look.
2.TARVA dresser hack
This TARVA dresser went from bland and unfinished to truly stunning. Drew from @lonefoxhome started by painting the drawer fronts light gray and covering them with raffia cloth to achieve a cane-like look. He finished it with brass hardware and trimmed around the drawers to create an Ikea hack that looks eerily similar to Serena & Lily's $4,500 dresser.
3. Glass display cabinet
Erika from @peonyandhoney wanted the look of a high-end display cabinet without the $1,800 price tag. She tricked out this her BILLY bookshelf with paint and doors to give it a classy look for a fraction of the cost. It's hard to believe this came from IKEA either because of the added trim on the glass door.
4.IKEA dresser hack
This KOPPANG dresser was originally a basic white color. But @byolivialee gave it the shine it deserved with just a fresh coat of paint.
5. Arched display shelf
If you want designer cabinetry without the hefty price tag, this DIY is for you. You might not guess it just by looking at it, but the arch is actually made from paintable wallpaper. A fresh coat of paint, beadboard wallpaper on the back panel, pole wrap on the doors, and wood contact paper on the shelves take this cabinet to the next level.
6. KALLAX IKEA Hack
Did you ever imagine that this piece started as a KALLAX shelf? I'm still scratching my head as to how Luisa from @schereleimpapier ended up with this beautiful little bookshelf. She removed the shelves, painted the whole thing a gorgeous shade of green, added wooden legs and a wooden top, attached the lining, and added an arched panel to the front. 10/10 Execution.
7. DIY bookshelf with built-in arch
These built-ins are straight from my Pinterest boards, and it's hard to believe they were DIY'd with 6 HAVSTA cabinets, 6 BILLY bookshelves, and 6 BILLY extensions. I'm obsessed with the arch detail, which is made from half-inch sanded plywood. The added trim and teal paint color are just awesome.
8. IKEA IVAR cabinet DIY
This adorable entryway unit is a super easy project made from just one cabinet. After removing the doors, Medina from @grilodesigns cut a diamond-shaped hole in one of the doors and stapled cane material to the back to add texture. So simple and so cute!
9. IKEA nightstand hack
Ashlyn from @houseonoaklane transformed an IKEA dresser into a classy nightstand for just about $200. He simply adds paint, installs trim, and replaces hardware for a complete makeover.
10. IKEA LACK coffee table hack
Simply add an EKET cabinet under your IKEA LACK coffee table to transform it into a chic, minimalist piece. By removing the original legs and using the cabinet as the base, a completely new silhouette has been created, giving it a more luxurious feel.
11. DIY lamp
This adorable DIY mushroom lamp is made from a coffee pot and bowl. Yes, that's right. Drew from @lonefoxhome transforms average kitchen appliances into unique lamps in just a few easy steps. If you ask them where they're from, they'll tell you right away.
12. Mirror side table hack
This hack turns an ordinary side table into a fun and statement piece with little effort. All you need is the IKEA LACK side table and his 6 square pieces of acrylic glass to create a totally unique table for your home.
